The Courses
What is the curriculum like, how does it work?
Once you get your username and password you will be able to log into our course site. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from anywhere you have access to an internet connection.
Mastercam Courses are made up of Lessons where you will be drawing and creating the toolpath for a part (some of the more advanced courses do not require you to draw the part).
Each Lesson has a number of steps that include:
- Step-by-Step instructions (you can print)
- Videos showing how to complete each Task in the Step-by-Step Instructions
- Short easy to accomplish Tasks where you use the Software to work on the Lesson project
- 1 or 2 Simple Exercises at the end of the Lesson which help reinforce what you have learned in that Lesson

Is there a Test at the end of a Course?
Yes, there is an optional Test at the end of most of the Premium Bundle courses. The test is optional and you only take the test when you feel ready. You are required to draw and toolpath a part that is similar to the parts in the course. No travel is required to do the Test. Passing the test gets you a Certificate.
What credibility does the Certificate have?
camInstructor is an official Mastercam Partner and is therefore recognized by CNC Software to offer Mastercam Training products and services. The Certificate that is issued to customers who successfully complete each Online Course holds the Mastercam Partner status. To date we have issued over 1,800 Certificates to our customers who have learned Mastercam.
What are the advantages of this type of course?
Studies have shown that allowing students to learn at their own pace and at a time that is convenient to them, leads to better retention rates and therefore more learning takes place. It also allows for more personal attention for the student.
Unlike traditional education, our online course is hands-on. More than 75% of your time is spent working on projects. This keeps things very interesting. We start you off creating simple parts (CAD Drawings) and moving you along to more difficult parts and adding toolpaths along the way. This means that you’ll learn concepts and immediately put them into action.
Most of our students have full-time jobs or busy freelance schedules. Therefore we give you a full year to get through the content. If you have to take a break for a month or two you can always come back and start up where you left off.
Is camInstructor right for you?

The Premium Bundle Courses feature a service called “Ask Instructor’. When working on your course at home, you will have access to your instructor throughout the course via our “Ask the Instructor”. This feature provides you with the opportunity to ask a question from the online course site whenever you run into a problem or a question. You will get an answer to your question within 24 hours during the workweek and a bit longer during weekends and holidays.
How much time can I expect to spend on coursework each day?
It’s up to you. You can spend an hour each day or a few hours a week or even less time. For people who are learning Mastercam for the first time we recommend that you spend at least an hour every 2 days. That will get you through one of the courses in about a month.
For people who have experience using Mastercam you may spend a few hours for each new concept you want to learn.
Of course the more you put into the training the more you will get out of it.
Where does the program take place?
The program is online.
How often are courses offered?
camInstructor online training is open entry so there is no start date. You start when you are ready and you finish in a time frame that works for you. If you want suggestions on the best schedule for you, just ask and we can make recommendations.
Is there an Instructor that teaches me the material?
If you choose the premium bundle option then you will have access to an instructor who is there whenever you need them to answer your questions and guide you through the material. However there are no assignments and you don’t have to meet any deadlines.
Will I learn the same amount in this course as compared to the standard course?
Because you are able to learn at your own pace, our experience show that you will learn the same or more with our online course, as long as you do the work. There is more pressure on you to do the work and complete the Tasks. No-one is going to tell you what to do and when to do it. If this is how you learn best then camInstructor is for you.
You are never alone with our optional “Ask the Instructor” feature. It provides you with the opportunity to ask a question from the online course site whenever you run into a problem or a question. You will get an answer to your question within 24 hours during the work week and it may take a bit longer during weekends and holidays.
